Biography

Dr Sue Richards joined Peninsula Medical School in January 2003 having previously worked in both the Department of Social Medicine (University of Bristol) and the Department of General Practice and Primary Care (University of Birmingham). Over the last fourteen years she has worked extensively in the field of health and social care research for older people, specialising in clinical trials methodology and the development and application of patient-based outcome measures.

Sue is leading a developing programme of work around optimising health and social care services for older people. Recently completed projects include an evaluation of interagency communication for patients with palliative care needs (Special Messages Study), the role of community mentoring services (Devon Ageing & Quality of Life Study) aimed at improving the health and well-being of socially isolated older people, and the role of group-based exercise (PI Vicki Goodwin) as a method for preventing falls, and improving physical functioning and quality of life for patients with Parkinson's disease.

Sue actively supports Professor Campbell’s programme of work around the development and evaluation of quality assessment tools in health care settings, working on the evaluation of the GMC Patient and Colleague Questionnaires. Details of her recent publications and grants awarded are given below.
