Obesity
More than half of the British population is overweight or obese and numbers are rising worldwide into epidemic proportions. Obesity is causing considerable morbidity and reducing life expectancy. It is particularly closely linked to the development of Type 2 diabetes.
Some of the questions our research group is trying to answer are:
- Why does weight loss improve Type 2 diabetes?
- What are the systemic and local effects of obese fat/adipose tissue? and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEwK2ODyBPY
- Why are some people more prone to obesity-related ill health than others?
- What are the explanations for vascular ill-health in obesity?
- How does activity and inactivity affect appetite and fat tissue physiology?
- What are the benefits of bariatric surgery?
Obesity can affect any organ in the body from the liver to the brain. Thus our collaborations are abundant and increasingly expanding nationally and internationally.
